How to Properly Care for your New Chihuahua
Royal Canin puppy x-small or small mini puppy dry food which can be found at many online retailers such as Amazon and Chewy, Along with big box stores such as Petsmart and Petco. This is excellent food, costs a little more but we find it to be the best. We have tried them all and our puppies are healthier and eat better so we highly recommend this food. We do not believe in all-natural foods for puppies, they really need the extra nourishment like royal canin supplies.
- Leave food out 24 hrs/day for the first several weeks.
- Do NOT feed 3 times daily. Little teacup puppies need to eat all day and evening!
- They don't each much at one time because they are so tiny, but they do eat frequently.
- Expect your pup to eat 5 or 6 times a day, a little at a time.
- They should eat every 3 hours. It is your responsibility to make sure they do!
- Hypoglycemia (not eating enough and/or stress) is NOT covered by YorkieBabies.
- Throw out food/water that sits more than 4 hrs & replace it with fresh, purified bottled water.
- Do NOT change food brands for at least 2 months of longer. Must be done gradually.
- Changing brands immediately can cause diarrhea.
Take care of your newest little loved one properly and they will reward you with years of unconditional love in return!!!
Royal Canin puppy appetite – 6 cans
Pedialyte clear, not flavored. See Below.
Add one-third of one teaspoon of clear Karo syrup and 2/3 cups of bottled purified water and 1/3 cup of Pedialyte for the first five days of bringing your puppy home. We only use bottled purified water. The clear Karo syrup will help to keep your puppy’s sugar level up while they transition to their new home and the clear Pedialyte helps to rehydrate the puppy after flying to their new home. The Pedialyte is not necessary if you have picked up your puppy in person and not flying with it.
This keeps your puppy safe and yet they can see everything. They provide more room so your puppy can be safe and still move around more. We recommend this pet playpen for nighttime too, as many people were abusing the crate and leaving the puppy in there for too many hours. So you can eliminate the training crate altogether. We will teach you how to train your puppy with the playpen training process! Our puppies train in 2 to 3 weeks for those who follow our advice. That is amazingly fast!
Harnesses with a 4 to 6 foot lead or leash are best for training. Indoor collars are great for tags, and bells to locate and hear your new addition.
Give nutrical once a day after eating for the first week, once a day after eating for the second and third week. It must be given after eating only!!! Nutrical gives extra vitamins, but remember nutrical is not a substitute for eating!!! It is a vitamin supplement only, not a substitute for eating!!! It provides essential vitamins and minerals for your growing puppy. It is also a great training tool for your new puppy because they love it. It should only be given after eating.
Must keep house temperature no lower than 74 degrees for air conditioners and no lower than 72 if you have the heat on, (we understand that’s a little warm) but you can simply place the puppy in a room where air conditioning vents have been closed. No overhead fans on your new Yorkie. Overhead fans can cause your new puppy to catch a draft and a cold. Use common sense as you would for a baby.
*Limit puppy running around time to no more than 15-20 minutes at a time and then let puppy rest for at least 1 to 2 hours in a childrens’ playpen before continuing any activity for the first several days, they are like babies and need their rest and nap times.**
